Flood is a terrible natural calamity that we must see, especially in rural areas. It happens for several causes.
Heavy rainfall On the upper land and hilly areas is the natural cause and release of barrage water in large volumes is the artificial cause of flood.
When the flood becomes furious, it takes away the lives of the wretched people and the domestic animals.
Hundreds of mud-built houses are collapsed and many people become homeless.
Crops of the vast areas are washed away. The suffering of the common people, especially the homeless people knows no bounds.
Scarcity of drinking water becomes acute and sometimes cholera and the diseases of entrails break out in an epidemic form.
Considering the gravity of the situation relief work is done by the government and some social welfare organizations such as Ramkrishna Mission, Bharat Sevashram Sangha etc. to relieve the suffering of the flood- stricken people.
