A tragic lightning strike claimed the life of a family including a child in Dhadika, Bankura, during a severe thunderstorm that Swept through the region.
The unfortunate incident occurred yesterday, when heavy rains and thunderstorms stuck in the area, causing massive disruption.
According to sources, three persons including a child aged eight, belonging to the same family, worked in the field in front of their house when they were electrocuted.
One eyewitness claimed that while he was scurrying across a field towards his house, he heard an earsplitting sound and saw a bright light about five hundred feet away.
The local authorities confirm that the three individuals including the child were declared dead on the spot due to the impact of the lightning strike.
The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.
As a preventive measure, the local Panchayat has warned residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open areas where lightning strikes are more likely.
