My dear Sambhu,
I was born and brought up in Kolkata. You will be surprised to know that last month I had my first experience of a journey by train.
My uncle, as you know, is a government officer. He has been recently transferred to Lucknow. I requested him to take me with him. He readily agreed, and we took the train from Howrah. The Lucknow Express steamed off at 8 a.m.
It was such a thrilling and exciting experience. I was beside myself with joy. I watched the rivers and landscape, the fields and meadows, the woods and forests, huts and buildings, all of which seemed to run. The train stopped at the big stations. There were streams of passengers boarding and getting out of the train. I saw men and women wearing different kinds of dress and speaking different languages. I would understand how big my country was! We reached Lucknow in the afternoon of the following day.
